The programs listed in this section are open to everyone regardless of experience level.  These classes, retreats and open meditations have a broad appeal and are designed to meet the needs and interests of people coming from many backgrounds and interests.  They are appropriate for

  • Beginners with no experience
  • Meditators with an existing practice looking for a support structure to insure progress
  • Those who have taken a Mindfulness-based Stress Management program
  • Anyone wanting to re-establish a regular daily practice after a significant break
  • Yoga students interested in complementing their physical yoga practice with meditation


Loving Kindness Practice

The Art of Happiness

A four-week course open to anyone with experience with mindfulness meditation
Two Registration Options:  Live Classroom or Audio via the Internet

heart“Loving Kindness” or metta is a traditional practice using contemplations to cultivate an open heart of kindness towards oneself and others.  It is a very effective and simple way to reawaken our natural good-heartedness and leads to increasing tranquility, and joy.  Classes will include guided meditations, instruction and plenty of opportunity for questions and sharing.

This course was designed as a companion program to the recent class “Open to Embrace Your Life through the Power of Meditation”.  It introduces students to the gentle practice of contemplation using traditional phrases that are both simple but transformative.  This short program is open to anyone with some experience with mindfulness meditation who would like to support their practice with loving kindness.

Calm and Clear

The Foundations of Mindfulness Meditation

meditation roomLiving as we do in difficult times, the ability to let go and be clear in the present moment is an essential skill for living our lives with sanity, balance, love and humor.  Meditation teaches us this skill and much more.  For millennia people have appreciated the benefits of calming mind and body, reconnecting with our innermost selves and the simple joy of living.  This course is designed to give you all the tools you need to develop or revitalize a regular meditation practice in support of a conscious life.  We’ll begin with the whys of practice and proceed with a thorough and practical exploration of the hows.

This class is open to everyone who has received basic instruction in mindfulness meditation.  It is especially appropriate for anyone who has completed our BNB (Brand New Beginner) meditation series or a mindfulness-based stress management program.

Classes will include guided meditation, talks, exercises and discussion.  The class format offers opportunity for personal guidance from a qualified teacher as well as for sharing experiences with others in the class.

Each class will be recorded and made available on a weekly basis to all registered students for listening and downloading via the internet.  Participants are encouraged to re-listen to talks each week and to use the recordings to guide their meditation.  Having the recordings also means that if you miss a class, you can listen to the recording and catch up before the next class.

BNB Meditation Series

"Brand New Beginners"

6 Tuesday evenings     7:00 pm to 8:15 pm

BNB MeditationWe are thrilled to be able to offer our students this fantastic opportunity to learn the fundamentals of mindfulness meditation and stress reduction techniques in a structured 6-week course.  This introductory series will include seated practice, contemplation and discussion.  Brand New Beginners to meditation and experienced practitioners will experience an enhanced feeling of well being and increased focus.

Half-Day Silent Meditation Intensive

Sitting and Walking Meditation

sitting meditators This Intensive is open to everyone with an existing meditation practice.  The morning will include alternating periods of silent sitting and walking meditation within the supportive atmosphere of group practice.  (Note that there is no meditation instruction given.)  

These Intensives are conducted in silence allowing participants at all levels and with different practices to meditate together.  So whether your practice is mindfulness, insight meditation, loving-kindness, silent mantra meditation, or resting in the Natural State of non-dual awareness, you are warmly invited to attend.  Meditating for an extended period deepens one’s practice by allowing enough time for the mind to settle, bringing natural clarity, peace, and the simple joy of Being.
