The Short Path to Awakening
According to the Great Tibetan Saint Gampopa

Weekly Class
Two Registration Options:  Live Classroom or Audio via the Internet

September 13th - December 6th
(No class on 9/27/10)

12 Monday evenings     7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Gampopa - Tibetan Meditation Center .com The 12th century Tibetan master Gampopa was the primary student of the Great Milarepa, probably the most renowned enlightened yogi of Tibet.  Gampopa was a physician monk who trained in the yogic practices of Milarepa and attained Liberation.

Gampopa then created a yogic monastey in the mountains which produced 100’s of enlightened meditators who spread the teachings throughout Tibet.  Many people became awakened in a very short period of time because of his instructions.  He condensed all of the many practices of Tibet into three essential ones: Guru Yoga, Tummo, and Mahamudra.

Guru Yoga is the practice of continuously receiving the “blessings” of the guru.   Although one may have an outer guru or teacher, one’s True Nature, the guru within, is the Ultimate Guru.  We will learn to access, learn from, and receive blessings from the Guru or Divine within.

Tummo is the practice of the blissful “inner heat” that melts away the blocks in the subtle energy body that keep us trapped in our confused, habitual patterns of mind and body.  This practice is similar to kundalini yoga and forms the basis for all of the esoteric yogic practices of Tibet.  Kundalini is the Divine spiritual energy of awakening.  We will explore simple yet powerful essential kundalini practices that one can do at home.

Mahamudra is the practice of inquiring directly into one’s experience in order to awaken to one’s True Nature, unconditioned awareness without beginning or end.  Mahamudra is awakening to being consciousness itself in unity with all that is.

In this class we will learn about and engage these three transformative practices in ways that are non-denominational and that have been simplified and adapted for westerners.  Although these practices are based on Tibetan Buddhist and Vedic meditations they are relevant to anyone serious about spiritual awakening regardless of tradition.  A significant amount of time each class will be devoted to practice.  Also the Oneness Blessing will be given to support everyone’s awakening.  This is a very special and rare opportunity to learn about and experience these powerful sacred practices.

Supplementary reading for this class will be from Teachings on Tibetan Yoga by Garma C. C. Chang.  This book is out of print but used copies can be purchased from on-line booksellers.  All class participants should acquire a copy by the 2nd week of class if possible.
