Weekly
Class January 19th - March 23rd 10 Tuesday evenings 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Insight meditation is a path of discovery. It exposes how unexamined mental patterns distort our experience resulting in suffering and dissatisfaction. As we begin to see more clearly the actual nature of the way things are, we open the doorway to freedom, greater relaxation and joy. In this class we will explore deepening levels of meditation and central teachings on the practice. There will be guided meditations and exercises as well as opportunities for discussions. Topics will include:
This class is intended for those with an existing mindfulness meditation practice who are interested in deepening their meditation experience. Readings for the class will be assigned from Insight Meditation - The Practice of Freedom by Joseph Goldstein. Students are responsible for acquiring their own copies of the book. All participants have access to recordings of each class and are encouraged to use the guided meditations and talks as a support for daily practice. Instructor: Nancy McBride Registration Options:
Audio recordings for the Level 1 class are posted here. Intensives “No matter what activity or practice we are pursuing, there isn’t anything that isn’t made easier through constant familiarity and training. Through training, we can change, we can transform ourselves.” -The Dalai Lama One Day Intensives are an opportunity to deepen and revitalize your meditation practice. There is no substitute for intensive practice. For the mind that thirsts for peace and contentment, intensive practice is like drinking deeply from a mountain stream. Practicing Insight Meditation A One-day Intensive Practice Program Sunday February 21st 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM
The practice begins with training our attention on the sensations of breathing and the body. From there, we open to include more and more of our experience within the field of present-moment awareness. This enables insight into the true nature of what causes suffering and the path to its ending. Such clear-seeing fosters both wisdom and compassion. In this one-day intensive we will combine periods of sitting and walking meditation with talks to guide our investigation into the nature of experience. There will be opportunities for discussion and questions also. The program is especially designed to complement the weekly class on Insight Meditation allowing students to deepen their practice. But it is open to anyone with an existing mindfulness meditation practice who would like to join us for the day. There is nothing more helpful to our practice than practicing intensively with the support of a group. Welcome!
